MAJOR FUNCTION Performs general managerial/administrative duties in any of a large variety of departments and functions, with responsibility for planning, coordinating, supervising, budgeting and controlling assigned resources to achieve department/section objectives.
MAJOR DUTIES Note: The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. Depending on the particular agency/division department to which they are assigned, individual employees may perform all or any of the duties described below. Manages and directs the department's employee safety and health program. Inspects, evaluates and makes recommendations regarding safety needs, awareness, intervention and procedures. Drafts, reviews and updates various department safety procedures, policies, and handbooks. Conducts on-site compliance inspections. Provides upper management with direct support in establishing and maintaining emergency preparedness programs. Directs and coordinates emergency response, emergency planning, risk management and disaster preparedness programs. Manages the reporting requirements of the various federal and state hazardous materials inventory control programs. Reviews, investigates, tracks Workers Compensation claims, motor vehicle crashes involving Department equipment, and general liability claims. Supervises staff and department record-keeping activities. Performs other related duties as required.

Skill in the application of supervisory techniques. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with others within and outside own organization. Ability to use initiative, and exercise sound judgment. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. May require specialized technical knowledge of a specific operational area, and demonstrated ability to perform and/or supervise specialized work in that area.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Note: Minimum Qualifications MUST be attained before the recruitment ending date.
Graduation from an accredited four year degree granting college or university; andTwo years of experience in safety inspection, compliance or monitoring.ORA Master's Degree from an accredited college or university; andOne year of experience in safety inspection, compliance or monitoring.ORAn Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university; andFour years of experience in safety inspection, compliance or monitoring.ORGraduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate; andFive years of experience in safety inspection, compliance or monitoring.
